In the Valley of Lakes, you can be what you want to be…

Live in Brisbane Valley and it is you who decides just what you want your new lifestyle to be. You can be as busy or relaxed, as involved or as private as you choose.

Stress melts away in the Valley of Lakes…

It is pretty hard to get stressed out in country as beautiful and relaxed as this.

Living in a country district is nothing like a city existence. Almost everyone smiles at you. Within weeks, most of the shop keepers will know your name. People will stop you in the street to see how you are settling in.

Immediately you will notice that there is no peak hour traffic, no traffic lights and no confounding roundabouts! You can park in the main street—no trouble at all—and almost always, right outside the bank (where there’s no queues) or in front of the Post Office.

Locals will offer to carry your shopping to the car. Crimes against people and property are negligible. You'll soon be on first name terms with your Bank Manager, accountant and lawyer. You can walk or sit in the park without fear. And when in town, you’ll always meet up with friends and neighbours happy to stop for a ‘catch-up’ chat.

There are so many ways to get involved. For example, if you're keen on history...

Supported by several dedicated historical societies, history lives on in several impeccably preserved old homesteads in the Brisbane Valley.

At Caboonbah on the Esk Kilcoy Road, and Bellevue at Coominya you can immerse yourself in the lives of the early settler families. Many areas around Toogoolawah and Esk are presently celebrating centenaries of historical significance.

Maybe horses are your passion...

If your choice of entertainment is more active, the Valley is renowned for its range of horse-related action. Esk Picnic Race meetings are renowned Queensland-wide. Stockhorses are still a fact of life on the larger properties. And trail riding in all its variety is a healthy and popular past-time. Pony Clubs flourish.

Numerous top rated studs of various breeds also prosper here in this lush Valley, along with horse breakers, trainers, tutors, equine vets and dentists, and farriers. People with horsing interests are literally flocking in ever-increasing numbers to the district—drawn to an area where there are many like-minded people just as passionate as themselves.

As well, there are always ample Ag Shows, Open Days, Futurities and other splendid ways for you and your horse to show your paces. In the old days, Esk Shire was home to some of Queensland's very first campdrafts. It's a tradition that lives on with several high profile musters each year.

Rodeo is also a recurrent event, with each meet drawing top talent from around Australia and thousands of spectators.

If you fancy yourself as a rider but are still 'city-green', there are many world-renowned experts here happy to instruct you in riding, horsemanship and any number of other horsing pursuits, such as dressage and carriage driving.

For the creative types...

The Shire is home to an increasing number of talented artists and craftspeople, with Esk in particular supporting an enclave of artists specialising in a diverse range of mediums—from sculpting, traditional oils and pastels painting and multi-media works, to quilt making, embroidery, folk art, mosaics and beading.

There are plenty of arts and crafts teaching experts as well as a very well-stocked store for all types of supplies and techniques advice.

Brisbane Valley locals love their ‘little corner of the world’—with good reason. And people moving here, whether they’ are ‘tree changers’ or ‘farm changers’ or people who realise they just do not have to be in a bustling city any longer, very quickly feel at home, declaring they will never return to fast-paced suburban life.
